Hi, After two decades of smoking, I became smoke-free 01/30/09!! I want to support graphic images on tobacco packaging. I remember two images by the 4-H Club at a county fair in the early 1980's included in an exhibit to encourage people to quit smoking. It said "Here is a healthy lung" followed by a large photo of a pink healthy lung. Next, it said "Here is the lung of a cigarette smoker." Of course, the lung was dark and diseased. I was an adolescent at the time and remember a family member telling me not to show this to my mom, who smoked, because it may upset her. Well, guess what? She got lung, liver and bone cancer. Perhaps images of diseased organs, cancer patients, children at funerals of victims is what is needed. I wish the best to those survivors, those of you who have quit or are thinking of quitting. It is well worth it. |
